Owner Melinda Metten opened CrossFit Bangor in June 2011 so she could have a place to work out with her friends. Little did she know, her whole life was about to change. CrossFit Bangor’s reputation spread like wildfire, and so did membership at her box.

Melinda does it all, not just at the gym, but in life. Aside from owning a gym, she’s also a firefighter and a boom operator. Her unstoppable drive and work ethic mean she’s not good at hiding her disappointment when she sees other people not living up to their potential. “I can’t stand when people avoid adversity all their life and constantly sell themselves short.”

Derek Gilley 

Coach

is a former football and baseball player that came to CrossFit wanting to better his life, and he ended up improving other people’s, too. He loves watching members push past limits they never knew they had.

Seeing members achieve and then push past their goals perfectly fits his favorite quote: “For every mountain you climb and plateau you rest at, there will be another and more interesting view ahead.”

 

Cherie Christopherson

Coach

calls herself an expert in freestyle dancing and singing the wrong lyrics to most songs. Though she never had a really athletic background, from the first time she tried CrossFit she was hooked.

Today, she’s passionate about the “infinite possibilities” that each day holds, for herself and her members. “I love watching a group of people, from all different walks of life, come together to move their bodies, work hard together, celebrate each other’s successes, and encourage each other towards each person’s personal goals,” she says.

Loves making CrossFit the best part of his members’ days. Zachary started CrossFit in 2012 and said it changed his life, so he was inspired to become a trainer to bring that positive change to the lives of others.

Karen Landry 

Coach

is the kind of person you’d want around if you got stranded on a desert island. She’s a firefighter, an RN, and a paramedic. She could keep you in shape, too.

Karen played a ton of sports in high school and college, but after graduating, she missed the camaraderie of team sports. CrossFit jumped in to fill the void. “I soon discovered that CrossFit Bangor not only made me a better firefighter, but also filled that space that I was missing in my life from team sports,” she says. “Being a coach at CrossFit Bangor and being a part of a community making people healthier has to be the most rewarding experience I have ever been a part of.

Michele Pampinella

Coach

specializes in motivation and helping people believe in themselves. Her favorite thing about coaching is “the lightbulb moment” when one of her members reaches a goal they never imagined they could achieve.

Michele is a lifelong athlete with a long list athletic pursuits including adventure runs and “anything outdoors.” Michele is currently battling breast cancer and is using CrossFit as a way to keep her mind and body healthy during her recovery. “So, you may not see me in the gym right now … but I will be back soon enough my friends!”

Tiffany

Tiffany is Level 2 CrossFit Coach, she comes to us from the Brunswick/Portland area and has been a coach for 5 years. She has a long standing background in fitness with a  Bachelors degree in Community Health Communication from The University of Maine at Farmington and double minors in Exercise Science and Nutrition and is also a Certified Peronal Trainer with the NationlaStrength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT)  

Tiffany has seen undeniable personal growth since starting CrossFit in 2009, and is excited to bring that same passion for exercise and wellness to the members of CrossFit Bangor. 

 

Kevin Anderson 

Coach

is known at CrossFit Bangor as “The WOD Whisperer.” He got introduced to CrossFit in 2008 when he was at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and was instantly addicted. He’s always been passionate about fitness, and CrossFit was a perfect fit for him. Kevin says the best thing about coaching is seeing his members’ confidence shoot up when they get closer and closer to reaching their goals.


His favorite quote is: “Most men stop when they begin to tire. Good men go until they think they are going to collapse. But the very best know the mind tires before the body and push themselves further and further beyond all limits. Only when all these limits are shattered can the unattainable be reached.”-Mark Mysynk

Was introduced to CrossFit six years ago by his wife, Melinda, and is so glad he was. Today, he’s thrilled to help members improve their bodies and minds with CrossFit. He specializes in body weight movements and loves watching members “accomplish something they thought impossible.” His favorite quote is “I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

James Hildebrand

former sedentary lifestyle is what brought him to CrossFit. “The daily challenges and results got me to stay, and the people and the community made me want to be a coach,” he says.

Today he is passionate about bringing people of all ages to the sport of fitness and helping to grow CrossFit Bangor’s community. He excels at helping people “embrace the suck” and find pleasure in oft-maligned activities like rowing, he says, which also happens to be his specialty.
